Discover Camden - Guest post

Camden, NSW- The Best Weekend Getaway




If you are looking forward to a quick getaway close to Sydney, Camden is the place for you. Just 65km south west of Sydney, this popular tourist destination is very accessible. This is the place to escape your busy life. Sit back and relax, let the scenic beauty take all the stress and tension away. It’s country town feel is a real surprise, so close to Sydney.


The historic town of Camden is a Macarthur town. And home to some of the most magnificent historic properties of Australia. You can visit Belganny Farm, Camden Town farm or Wivenhoe, and once a year John Macarthur’s own home Camden Park is open. For the garden lover, Camden is home to the country’s largest botanical garden at Mount Annan. If you are strolling down the main streets of Camden you can also visit the Camden Fine Art Gallery, run by the local society of artists. Or visit the Museum in John St.


If all this makes you a little hungry, you can pick up a bottle of wine at Cogno Brothers or Gledwood wineries, and take the family for a picnic at one of Camden’s many parks. Including Macarthur Park, close to the historic St Johns Church, which was originally granted to the people of Camden by the Macarthur family.


Of course you can also take in a bit of shopping. Camden’s main street is full of interesting shops, and with shopping centre’s at Narellan, Harrington Park and Mount Annan you have everything covered.


If a boys weekend is what you are looking for, why not plan a fishing trip along with your mates. I  guarantee you will have a great time. The Nepean and its associated creeks are a delight to fish in; plenty of bass to make your day. There are also a number of spots between Camden and Penrith so you might want to take the rod and an assortments of lures. Douglas Park is close to Camden and a fishing haven.
